St John's Jacobite Syrian Church History

This Holy Church resides at Pindimana village in Kothamangalam Taluk, Ernakulam District and named as Trikkunnathu Mor Yoohanon Mamdhono Church or St.John's Jacobite Syrian Church.

This Holy Church stands as a part of Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church of International Syrian Church comes under the Holy Apostolic See of Antioch and all the East and the supreme domain head His Holiness Patriarch Bawa Holy named as Moran Mor Ignatius sacredly ruling from time to time in Holy Apostolic See of St.Peter (Pathros Sleeha).

In 1904 Makaram 04, Metropolitan of Malankara Diocese, His Grace Joseph Mor Dionysius laid the holy cross and also installed the relic of St. Mor Kuriakose Sahadha in silver urns kept inside the Krishna-stone, in the holy mausoleum at this place surrounded by three hills (Trikkunnu).

On 15th of Midhunam, 1910, the celebrant His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Abdhedhaloho II put his holy feet to this place to lay the first stone to build the church in the name of Mor Yoohanon Mamdhono and delivered the Holy Mass.

On 26th of Dhanu, 1930 (December 12th) the church is registered and came under the Holy See of Antioch. In 1955 a democratic constitution was established to the church. And now the church comprises 720 families under the leadership of the Vicar.

On November 14th, 1957 His Grace Geevarghese Mor Gregorios Metropolitan of Angamaly Diocese visited the church to replace the relic of Mor Kuriakose Sahadha to a newly built mausoleum and delivered the Holy Mass in the renovated Madhbaha. The main altar of the church is in the name of St.John the Baptist, the northern side altar is devoted to Holy Mother Virgin Mary and the altar at the south is devoted to St. George.

The litergical service of Washing the Feet on Passover Day Ceremony under the celebrant His Grace Philipose Mor Theophilos of Angamaly Diocese, was done in 1973. In 1952 the supreme head of Syrian Orthodox Church His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka First Iwas Patriarch Bawa extended his blessings to the church by his holy visit.

On January 12th 2003 the centenary celebrations of the church was inaugurated by the Catholicose His Beatitude Baselios Thomas First bawa. And the litergical service of Washing the Feet Ceremony under the celebrant His Grace Geevarghese Mor Polycarpus was celebrated on Maundy Thursday. On the Easter, rice and other essential food grains was supplied to the poor family members. A house is built and transferred to a parish member who is financially unsettled. Apart from this two economically backward female members were given with financial aid for their marriage and clothes were supplied to selected 101 poor people.

The centenary feast flag raised by His Excellence Yoohanon Mor Militios on January 1st 2004. The Holy Mass on 7th was celebrated by the Catholicose His Beatitude Baselios Thomas First Bawa. The constitution established on 1986 was amended on 24th of February 2005 and registered thereafter. In 2007 the parish of the church is split in 6 wards with of 24 family units.

The temporary sacrament of the renovated church was solemnly completed under the celebrant His Beatitude Catholicose Baselios Thomas First bawa on 01/01/2009.
